Advocacy
This page is dedicated to advocating for the preservation of the Montgomery Pass Wild Horse Territory (MPWHT) herd, one of the most unique and historic wild horse populations in the United States. Living along the Nevada–California border in the Eastern Sierra, this herd is the only known wild horse population in the nation whose numbers are naturally regulated by mountain lions, keeping them stable for nearly 40 years without mass roundups.
The MPWHT horses are ecologically important keystone species, supporting biodiversity through wildfire fuel reduction, soil aeration, seed dispersal, and habitat creation. They are also genetically rare, with traits that may be linked to prehistoric horses and color variations such as rare albinos.
We share updates on our lawsuit to stop a massive federal roundup that would permanently remove 624 of the 694 horses, upcoming events, petitions, and fundraising initiatives. We invite you to join us, by spreading the word, donating, attending events, and speaking out to help protect these majestic animals and ensure their survival for generations to come.
